About the Wegovy
Wegovy® (semaglutide) injection is a prescription medicine used along with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to:
- lower the risk of major cardiovascular events such as death, heart attack, or stroke in adults with established heart disease who have obesity or are overweight.
- help adults with obesity, and certain adults who are overweight with weight-related medical conditions, lose weight and maintain weight loss.
Wegovy® (semaglutide) injection is also used with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity to help children aged 12 years and older with obesity lose weight and keep the weight off.
Wegovy® contains semaglutide and should not be used together with other products that contain semaglutide or with other GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines.
It is not known whether Wegovy® injection is safe and effective for reducing the risk of major cardiovascular events (death, heart attack, or stroke) in people under 18 years of age.
Benefit of Wegovy
- Helps improve blood sugar (glucose) and lower A1C when used along with diet and exercise in adults with type 2 diabetes.
- Lowers the risk of major cardiovascular events (stroke, heart attack, or death) in adults with type 2 diabetes who also have heart disease.
- Lowers the risk of worsening kidney disease, kidney failure (end-stage kidney disease), and death due to cardiovascular disease in adults with type 2 diabetes who also have chronic kidney disease.
How to use Wegovy
Wegovy can be injected into the abdomen or thigh. Choose an injection area that feels most comfortable. Rotate the injection spot every week by splitting the selected area into four sections and using a different section each time. Place each new injection at least a finger-width away from the previous one, and if injecting into the abdomen, keep the injection at least 5 cm away from the belly button.

Wegovy FAQs
Yes, alcohol can generally be consumed while using Wegovy because there are no specific warnings that prohibit combining the two. However, studies involving semaglutide (Wegovy’s active ingredient) suggest that heavy drinking may reduce how well the medication works.
A common guideline is to keep alcohol to no more than 1 drink per day for women and 2 drinks per day for men. It’s best to review your alcohol use with your prescriber, since they can give advice tailored to your health and treatment plan.
Yes. In India, Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine and can only be obtained with a valid prescription from a licensed medical doctor.
At Karespot, every patient is assessed by an MCI-registered doctor (MBBS, MD Internal Medicine) before any prescription is issued. If you are not clinically suitable, we will tell you — and refund you.
Switching from Mounjaro to Wegovy is possible, but it should only be done with support from a doctor. At Karespot, we require a ten-day interval between your final Mounjaro dose and your first Wegovy dose, whereas many providers advise waiting 28 days.
Our aim is to make the changeover as smooth as possible, so you can continue your progress with minimal disruption. Always speak with your prescriber to confirm the safest way to transition between these two treatments.

After your final dose, Wegovy can stay in the body for roughly five to seven weeks, because semaglutide has an approximate one-week half-life. Full clearance may take around eight to ten weeks, depending on individual factors such as kidney function and general health. Over this period, its effects on appetite and blood sugar control fade gradually.
Take your injection on the same day each week to maintain a steady routine and get the most from your treatment.
If you cannot take it on your usual day:
- If your next scheduled dose is more than 2 days away, take the missed dose as soon as possible.
- If your next scheduled dose is less than 2 days away, skip the missed dose and take your next dose on your usual scheduled day.
- If you have missed Wegovy for more than 2 weeks, contact your healthcare provider for advice before restarting.
Most people notice reduced appetite within the first few weeks, but meaningful weight loss builds over months rather than days.
Some people feel appetite reduction early; others only notice significant changes after moving to higher doses. The rate of weight loss varies widely and is influenced by food choices, age, activity level, sleep, stress, and other medicines — so there is no single weekly rate that applies to everyone.

Wegovy and Ozempic both contain the same active ingredient — semaglutide — but they are licensed for different purposes and come in different dose strengths.
Wegovy is approved specifically for long-term weight management in people with obesity. Ozempic is primarily prescribed to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes, and is also indicated to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events.
Wegovy is available at higher doses (up to 2.4 mg) than Ozempic (up to 1.0 mg). Wegovy has been studied clinically for weight loss; Ozempic has not been specifically evaluated for weight management, even though some people with diabetes lose weight while taking it.

GLP-1 medicines can help with the weight and insulin resistance that drive PMOS — but in India they are approved for weight management in obesity and for type 2 diabetes, not specifically for PMOS.
Because PMOS is driven largely by insulin resistance, and because losing 5–10% of body weight can restore ovulation for many women, some patients with PMOS and obesity do see their cycles and metabolic markers improve. Whether it is appropriate for you is a decision for your doctor — particularly if you are trying to conceive.
