In pivotal trials, semaglutide produced a mean 14.9% weight reduction and tirzepatide up to 20.9% — but those results assume a fully potent, properly stored dose. Degraded medicine can quietly underperform.
In the STEP-1 trial (68 weeks), adults on semaglutide lost a mean of 14.9% of body weight versus 2.4% on placebo. In SURMOUNT-1 (72 weeks), tirzepatide produced mean reductions of 15%, 19.5% and 20.9% at the 5, 10 and 15 mg doses versus 3.1% on placebo, and 90.9% of the 15 mg group lost at least 5% of starting weight.
